Update from the TD – Monday, 14 September 2015
Wow what a busy weekend of football for our junior’s sides. The U12 & 15 Boys made the trip on Friday night to Palm Beach, where the U12’s put in an improved display in a 4-0 loss and the U15’s showed great resilience winning 1-0. The U14’s played at Brisbane City also on Friday night suffering a red card and a 6-0 loss.
Saturday saw the U14/15 girls draw 2-2 with Redlands after fighting back from being 2-0 down at half time, so a great effort!
Onto Sunday and firstly an apology on my behalf to the U12 & U13 parents & players. I was only made aware by Olympic at Midday of the venue change for these fixtures as they cited issues with their fields over the road. I did try to get the message out to you all in various modes which I hope worked. Onto the games and the U12’s found it tough to back up from Friday night going down 6-0. The U13’s went down 4-2 but again showed good signs of improvement!
The U14’s also found it tough playing two games in three days and some school matches in between going down 8-2.
The U15’s carried on their great form though and earned a hard fought 2-1 victory in the last minute with a goal from Calum Hogg (which I believe could be expensive for Dad)
The U16’s rounded out the action with a 3-1 loss in a game that they could have won with a bit more guile in both penalty areas!
The next topic I would like to mention in this up date is that of player retainments. Over this week a number of selected players will be given conditional letters of offer. However I should state now that there will only be a small number and there will be stipulations in there. My thinking behind this is as the elite pathway our door should and will remain open to any player from within the WESTERN CORRIDOR to gain a spot in our sides. Western Pride is the elite player pathway and therefore all players should earn the right to represent the green and white every season. As a club we must strive to improve on and off the field to holistically represent the region.
In regards to trial venues I cannot give you any further news, apart from confirming the start date of Monday 12th (Girls and Womens) and Tuesday 13th October (Boys) and that the first sessions will start at 5.30pm. I am fully expecting by the end of this week to be in a position to give full details.
On this note of training start times can I please encourage all parents to do their upmost this week to get players to training ready to start for 5.30pm. The coaches in these first time slots only get an hour and a half so starting on time is crucial, if they don’t start until 15mins late every session that 45 minutes a week of training time! If you are having difficulty with the start times please make contact with me.
Here I would also like to reiterate if you have questions, concerns or issues over anything to do with football please approach me as the TD and not coaches, managers or the committee. firstname.lastname@example.org
I would like to also take this opportunity to remind everyone that the school holiday coaching clinics will be commencing on Tuesday 22nd September for three days at Briggs Road. Follow this link to go the holiday clinic page
Finally the TD job is currently being advertised and we already have a number of highly qualified and suitable candidates which is very encouraging. The club will be looking to appoint the full time TD in week commencing 5th October. I will endeavour to keep you up dated with developments.
