The concept of the PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues is to implement a more efficient and effective way of identifying and further developing talented footballers, and to raise the standard of football on and off the field. Football Federation Australia (FFA) is heavily backing the The PS4 NPL and is using this model to identify talented players (see Figure 1) and clubs/regions for the forecast expansion of the Hyundai A-league. The PS4 NPL takes over the old representative format where players were selected to represent their region (i.e. Brisbane Sth and Sth West Qld) for a one-week tournament, in which the most talented players would then be selected for Qld. One of the problems with the old system was that players only had access to this higher level of training and competition for a short period of time. The The PS4 NPL format is designed to see the most talented players identified, invited to trial and possibly be selected to play for the Western Pride FC, where they receive approximately forty-weeks of football every year. These forty-weeks of football consist of three training sessions per week and approximately 30 games conducted by an FFA accredited coach following the national curriculum and overseen by a Technical Director. The PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues is an avenue in which these talented players can be further identified for the National Training Centre Challenge, Hyundai A-league academies/senior teams and Australian representative teams.

The PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues is an elite player pathway with the best players selected from the region for each age group. The relationship between The PS4 NPL and Community clubs and schools is pivotal to the success of the program and allows for players to continue to play football within our region and be monitored throughout their development. Football Ipswich, made up of five local clubs, holds the PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues license for the Western Pride FC. This governance model provides a solid platform for community involvement of the Western Pride FC. The Western Pride FC is the region’s representative program and it is in the regions best interests for all footballing people to get behind this entity and help put the western corridor back at the top in Queensland football.
