Briggs Rd Sporting Complex will become a showcase girl’s football this weekend as Western Pride host a PlayStation® 4 National Premier League pre-season carnival.

All ten PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues Women clubs and a visiting Northern Fury squad will converge on Ipswich on Saturday and Sunday for a full round of U13, U15 and U17 friendlies.

The Pride Girls teams have been drawn against Fury and Gold Coast City.

The weekend will climax with a Senior Women clash between Pride and UQ at 5:30pm Sunday evening.

Pride Senior Women coach Belinda Kitching said the concentration of fixtures will help develop a strong culture across the squads.

“As a coach, I like to see players not only understand the style of play required but be excited about building on that style.”

“The girls are keen to play and they want nothing more but to improve and be ready for the start of the season.”

Pride football development has been bolstered by the addition of a U17s competition for 2017 with the core the squad promoted from last season’s high-flying U15s.

They will be joined by state representatives Abigail Evetts and goalkeeper Elli Chappell who have been attracted to Pride from Townsville-based Fury.

Fellow state representative Dominique Spampinato remains at Pride after scoring 21 goals for the U15s last season, while Holly McQueen is the only departure after joining Brisbane Roar’s youth program.

Kitching said she would use this weekend’s U15 friendlies to give opportunities to several Ipswich youngsters on Pride’s radar.

“I will be inviting a few shadows players from Ipswich Knights and Ipswich City Bulls to give them experience of the next level.”

Pride’s new canteen coordinators Gabby’s Catering will be running a large food van and coffee for families and fans across the weekend.
