Western Pride are delighted to announce captain and goalkeeper Kirsten Veeren has signed with Brisbane Roar for the upcoming Westfield W-League season.
The 23-year old’s signing bolsters Roar keeping ranks which includes incumbent Mackenzie Arnold, who has 14 caps for the Matildas, and young Canberra product Georgina Worth.
Veeren earned her move after two seasons and 38 games for Pride, during which she earned numerous appearances in the PlayStation® 4 NPLW Queensland Team of the Week.
The shot-stopper made her senior debut at only 16 with Annerley, quickly becoming first-choice, before getting her first taste of PS4 NPLW football with Olympic FC.
At the start of 2017 Veeren found herself with the perfect mentor when former 32-cap Matilda goalkeeper Belinda Kitching became Pride’s Senior Women’s coach.
Veeren’s continuous improvement this season earned her an ultimately successful trial with Roar last month.
In moving to Roar, Veeren becomes the first Pride player to go on to sign her senior deal with a W-League club.
Lorena Maggio had already played for Adelaide United when she joined Pride as player/coach in 2014.
Pride would like to congratulate Veeren on seeing her hard work and determination over the last two years being rewarded with a step up to the Westfield W-League.
