Joe Duckworth running with the ball
Western Pride wishes to congratulate Joe Duckworth who has joined Brisbane Roar FC‘s Foxtel National Youth League side.

Duckworth’s move caps off a fine 2016 in which he claimed Pride’s Senior Player of the Year and Golden Boot awards after scoring 11 goals in 21 appearances.

In September Duckworth scored for PlayStation(r) 4 National Premier League U23 All-Star against Roar’s A-League side.

A few days later the former Ipswich Grammar School student was recognised as one of the hottest young talents in the country when he attended the PS4 Player Pathway Award Finals in Sydney.

The attacking midfielder and striker joined Pride from UQFC at the start of 2015 and made 43 appearances over two seasons, scoring 14 goals.

Duckworth is the third Senior Men player to move from Pride to Roar Youth in the last 12 months, following in the footsteps of Hayden Mchenery and last season’s top scorer Harrison Sawyer.

Pride’s Under 15 Girls player Holly McQueen also joined Roar’s Queensland Academy of Sport program this season.

Duckworth’s move is another example of the success of Western Pride youth development philosophy of giving younger players senior football experience.
